| The United States Postal Service gave Scouting "a stamp of approval" to honor 100 years of the Scouting movement. The Celebrate Scouting stamp will be issued in the summer of 2010, coinciding with events at the national Scout jamboree. This distinction is truly an honor. The USPS and its Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee receive as many as 50,000 proposals each year. In 2010, Scouting joins Mother Theresa, the Olympics, and Winslow Homer as one of just 23 selected themes. Last fall, the Boy Scouts of America and USPS unveiled the stamp design, created by Craig Frazier of Mill Valley, California. A backpacking Scout framed by a large silhouette of a Scout surveying the landscape, depicting the spirit and outdoor adventure that Scouting brings. In conjuncture with the announcement, the BSA launched a campaign that encourages Scouts to send letters and packages to veterans and deployed soldiers. The Scouts' letters express gratitude and sacrifice of our military men and women and, hopefully bring joy to people stationed far from home. |
