Directions

Camp Barton is located at Frontenac Point on Cayuga Lake, in Trumansburg, New York, just north of the Seneca County/Tompkins County border, about 9 miles north of Ithaca, New York.  You can find the location in Google Maps.

Here are specific directions:

  • From Ithaca, New York: 
    • Beware the dreaded "Octopus"! Leaving Ithaca to the West/North there are three separate bridges for Routes 79 and 13A; Route 96; and Route 89, respectively. You will want the northernmost of the three bridges, which involves crossing one bridge (used for Routes 96 and 89, combined) then making a right turn just before the road crosses the Route 96 bridge. Watch signs carefully to get on Route 89 Northbound! 
    • Take Route 89 north from Ithaca. Once you pass Taughannock Falls State Park, you will climb a hill and enter Seneca County. 
    • Watch for a Camp Barton sign on your right, about 1.5 miles past Taughannock Falls. Camp Barton is the area off to your right, down to the lake. 
    • Immediately after you cross a bridge, look for the Camp Barton sign at the corner of Frontenac Road on the right. Turn right, and go down the hill on Frontenac Road. 
    • (Note: Frontenac Road is a loop, and you passed it before you crossed the bridge, too. Both ways will take you to Camp Barton, but the southern half of the loop is rough and unpaved.) 
    • From the South (Owego): Take Route 96 north from Owego. At the 96/96B split, follow Route 96B to Ithaca. Go two blocks past the Commons and turn left on Buffalo Street. Go across Route 13 and the Cayuga Lake inlet to take Route 89 north to Barton (see instructions above).
    • From the South (Binghamton or Pennsylvania and points South): Take Interstate 81 North to Whitney Point exit. Follow Route 79 West/North to Ithaca. Follow Route 79 through downtown Ithaca to Route 13 North. There will be a sign "to 89" here. Turn right onto Route 13 north, go one block and turn left onto 89/96 (Buffalo Street). Go across the Cayuga Lake inlet to take Route 89 north to Barton (see instructions above). 
  • Alternate routes from Binghamton: 
    • take NY 17 / I-86 or NY 17C west to Owego, then follow Owego instructions; or 
    • take Route 26 north from Endicott to Route 38B in Union. Turn left onto 38B, follow it to Route 38 at Newark Valley. Turn right and follow Route 38 North to Richford. Turn left onto Route 79 West/North at Richford, follow instructions above from Route 79. 
  • From the South (Long Island, New York City area, Hudson Valley): Take New York State Thruway to Route 17 North/West at Harriman Exit. Note that if you're coming from the south, this exit is past the Sloatsburg rest area - do not take the first Route 17 exit, which will take you back into New Jersey. 
  • Take New York State Thruway to Route 17 North/West at Harriman Exit. Note that if you're coming from the south, this exit is do not take the first Route 17 exit, which will take you back into New Jersey. 
    • Alternate routes from Long Island
      • cross George Washington Bridge, turn right onto Palisades Parkway, then take Long Mountain Parkway and Route 6 to Route 17. Follow 17 to Interstate 81 North at Binghamton, then follow Binghamton instructions above.
      • cross George Washington Bridge to Route 80 West through Delaware Water Gap to Route 380, then Interstate 81 North. Follow the instructions from Binghamton above.
  • From the South (northern New Jersey): Take Route 80 West through Delaware Water Gap to Route 380, then Interstate 81 North. Follow the instructions from Binghamton above.
  • From the Southwest (Elmira/Corning): Take Route 13 north from Horseheads to Ithaca. Once in Ithaca, turn left at Route 89 (Buffalo Street). Follow the instructions above to Camp Barton.
  • From the west (Watkins Glen): Follow Route 79 to Ithaca, then get onto route 89 north at the "octopus". You'll need to take Route 79 over the inlet on one bridge, turn left on Route 13 north for a few blocks, then turn left and take another bridge across the inlet to Route 89. Watch for signs! Take Route 89 north to Barton (instructions above).
  • From the northwest (Buffalo, Rochester): Take the New York State Thruway (I-90) to Seneca Falls exit 41. Follow signs to Route 318 East. Take Route 318 to Route 89 South. Take Route 89 to Camp Barton - look for the Camp Barton sign at Frontenac Road on the left. Take Frontenac Road down the hill. If you have come to Taughannock Falls State Park, you passed Camp Barton by 1.5 miles.
  • From the northeast (Syracuse, Cortland): Take Interstate 81 South to Exit 12 (Route 281:Cortland/Homer). Follow signs toward Ithaca - Route 281 South. Take 281 South to Cortland, where it merges with Route 13 at Wal-mart. Follow Route 13 through Dryden (turn RIGHT at light in Dryden to stay on Route 13) to Ithaca. In Ithaca, turn right to cross Cayuga Lake inlet onto Route 89. Get on Route 89 and follow Ithaca instructions, above.
  • Take Route 80 West through Delaware Water Gap to Route 380, then Interstate 81 North. Follow the instructions from Binghamton above. Take Route 13 north from Horseheads to Ithaca.
